Economic Impact
The 2003 economic impact study by Applied Economics indicates that Oklahoma’s economy will be positively impacted over the next 20 years by the American Indian Cultural Center.
- In addition to the payroll generated by the Cultural Center, an average annual impact of $128.8 million will filter into the local economy, supporting over 2,500 jobs each year and $40 million in payroll at local businesses patronized by museum visitors. This economic activity would result in approximately 29 jobs and $912,000 in payroll each year at other local businesses
- The Cultural Center will employ a staff of approximately 60 people, with an annual payroll of $2 million. These employees will make direct local purchases of equipment, supplies and services of approximately $2.5 million annually.
- In the first 20 years of operation, direct visitor spending could generate $71.1 million in local sales and hotel tax revenues, and $69.5 million in state sales taxes. Additional indirect revenues would result in $66.0 million in local sales and property taxes, and $116.7 million in state sales and personal income taxes.
- The $2.5 million spent annually on direct museum purchases would generate an additional $1.8 million per year in economic activity at related local suppliers, for a total economic impact of $4.4 million per year, or $87.7 million over a 20-year period. This in turn would support 65 jobs at related supplier businesses, and $1.8 million annually in personal income.
- Over 920 direct construction jobs and 990 additional indirect jobs would be created in Oklahoma as a result of the cost to build the Cultural Center.
