Landscaped Park and Trail System
Nature is essential to the American Indian perspective, and the Center situates natural elements at the forefront of the visitor experience. There are four fundamental elements of the universe: Earth, Wind, Water and Fire. AICCM creates a place to draw visitors' attention to these natural elements and their interaction. From the moment of arrival from the East, the experience of the Center is infused with a Native American perspective.
Because Nature is essential to the American Indian perspective, tribal members were engaged early in the project’s development to determine appropriate and accurate content and to provide direction for the architectural elements
Promontory Walk
The walk begins below ground in the "Garden of Origins" and ascends to the highest point, where the interrelationships of different elements of the Cultural Center can be viewed.
Outdoor Interpretive Sky Terraces - Along the walk the visitor encounters sky terraces which offer a respite to listen to audio programs or to interact with storytellers, docents or educators.
Promontory Peak
This great 80-foot-high ramping circle of earth spans 1,000 feet in diameter and offers a dramatic contemporary tribute to a sophisticated and ancient cultural legacy. More than half a mile long, the walk represents the often arduous journeys of triumph, as well as of tragedy, made by many Indian people over their long histories. The pinnacle point provides a perfect place for introspection about self, freedom, natural democracy and man's role in preserving nature's many forms of diversity (including the diversity of cultures.)
Athletic Fields
A variety of athletic fields will attract both traditional and contemporary sporting events from rural communities to National Tournaments.
Performance Circle
The outdoor performance venue offers a natural backdrop that is more customary for cultural events.
River
The Oklahoma River, which runs adjacent to the 300 acre property and serves as the main water feature for the outdoor park connects the Cultural Center with the Bricktown Events & Entertainment District. The river also relates to the history of many tribes that positioned themselves along waterways.
